Old Foresthill Road near the Mammoth Bar area in Placer County, California was closed on January 18, 2024 due to a mud and rock slide. Click to view video of the rock slide. In order to open the road, a contractor hired by Placer County blasted large boulders that had fallen onto Old Foresthill Road into small pieces for cleanup. The road was cleared on January 23, 2024 and open again to traffic.

The rockslide has turned into the explosion heard around the world.  The Placer County Public Information Officer captured the cleanup on video, which included exploding large rocks and posted it on Instagram and Facebook. To date, the video has been played 1.6 million times on Instagram and Facebook and shared with a variety of news stations, including the BBC.
