Amid the immense challenges posed by COVID-19, libraries throughout the country are finding innovative ways to bring people together and to encourage safe, enriching activities.
Here in California, libraries have responded with a diverse array of new programs and found creative ways to adapt existing services to online, outdoor and physically distanced formats.
Take-home activity kits are supporting remote learning, StoryWalks are engaging families in outdoor literacy and virtual book clubs are allowing people to meet remotely at a time when connection is vital. Platforms like Zoom and Google Hangouts are also allowing family literacy and citizenship classes to continue when meeting in person is not possible.
Libraries across the state have been sharing their creative ideas with the California State Library, which has amassed a searchable database of online and remote programming resources. The database can be filtered by program type, location and target audience
Submit your own programming idea using the state’s SurveyMonkey link or share an example on LibraryRecovery.org by emailing William Cooley at wcooley@ckgroup.org.
